EnduringMind, Day on the River Twickenham

Welcome. I'm Greg.

If you're thinking of taking that first step then you may want to know more about me as a counsellor. My journey began as a therapist long before my training started at Metanoia. I have lived and travelled across the globe, working as a professional in local communities, lecturing, teaching and observing people's cultures as an anthropologist.

Like most people, life has presented me with its challenges and struggles. Learning how to live with them, has sometimes been painful. My path is one of revelation and self-discovery, but it has forged my appreciation of human beings in all their complexity and diversity. If I have learned anything it is that we are all flawed and vulnerable in some way, and I am no exception. Yet, we can also have incredible emotional resilience and the capacity to survive in the most trying circumstances. We are strong and we endure. I feel privileged to have found my calling as a counsellor. The clients I have met have all left their mark, as I experience their triumphs and despair.

As a counsellor at Counselling Twickenham and Whitton, I have a wealth of experience. Throughout my life I've been profoundly affected by my encounters with people from other cultures in my work as a psychotherapist, anthropologist, writer and lecturer. I am captivated by the interior lives of human beings and the cultures in which they thrive. The most profound insight I've had is to realise how extraordinary we all are, even as we live ordinary lives. The people and events I have witnessed have been a great levelling experience for me. I realise that despite our individuality, as human beings we share a lot in common. For this reason, I believe clients find me approachable, understanding & empathetic. I provide a safe environment where you can work through your issues in an atmosphere of trust & confidentiality.

Before becoming a counsellor and therapist, I worked at inner cities schools, universities and in communities around the world. It has allowed me to gain a broader perspective of life, as I lived among people in Africa, Brazil, India and Papua New Guinea. For a period I worked alongside botanists and plant hunters in Kew Gardens. I also trained counsellors at Saint Mary's University and in adult mental health services. During my training and qualification I cut my teeth as a counsellor and psychotherapist at MIND and was the first male counsellor to practice at Portsmouth Rape Crisis Service, counselling at Winchester University and as a supervisor at St. Mary's University; as well as a psychiatric ward.

I now work as a counsellor with over 12 years' experience in private practice: Twickenham Counselling, EnduringMind (counselling in Hounslow, Isleworth and Teddington areas). I train people in mindfulness and self-awareness practice. I see my work as a calling and aim to help people heal their pain and move towards freedom and change. I practice using a humanistic approach to therapy, which:

  • values the unique qualities and experiences of each human being

  • respects the autonomy of individuals to choose their own path in life

  • helps people to achieve this through a process of collaboration

It has been my privilege to work in this area with many different client groups: ages, genders, ethnicities, religions and social backgrounds. It took five years of training (Masters Degree) and many thousands of hours with clients and supervision before I qualified. Training took place at the prestigious Metanoia Institute in Ealing leaning counselling theory & practice. I now run a private practice at EnduringMind. I'm an accredited member of UKCP and abide by its code of ethics. At Twickenham counselling and therapy centre, EnduringMind I offer counselling in Twickenham, Whitton, Hampton, Isleworth and Teddington areas.
